NuAbode RV Solar Systems
Generator-Optional.
Finally.
Your factory Airstream solar system was designed to check a box. NüAbode designs systems to power real life — air conditioning, coffee makers, laptops, and everything in between — without a hookup in sight.
Three flat-rate 12V packages. One flagship 48V Total Electric™ system. All built on Victron and SOK lithium. All installed turnkey in Canton, GA.
Airstream builds beautiful trailers.
Their solar is not the point.
Airstream's factory 300W solar package delivers 3 panels, a basic controller, and a 100Ah lead-acid battery bank. For weekend RV park camping, it's fine. For anyone who actually wants to boondock — to camp away from hookups, run the AC, charge devices, and live comfortably — it falls dangerously short.
Owners discover this the hard way. Batteries in sleep mode overnight. Refrigerators shutting off. Generators running at 7am in quiet campgrounds. It doesn't have to be this way — and it won't be, after NüAbode.
My $170K Airstream couldn't last a single night boondocking using only the refrigerator before the batteries went into sleep mode.
Airstream Forums · Flying Cloud OwnerThe factory 300W solar package only includes 3 panels and a basic controller. For serious boondocking, it's deeply underpowered.
Airstream Forums · Community AssessmentWe went the route of having our system professionally installed, which I would do again in a heartbeat. The curved roof required custom brackets we could not have done ourselves.

Every Travel Style.
From a 600W weekend upgrade to a 48V fully electric build that replaces shore power entirely — all built on Victron and SOK lithium, installed turnkey in Canton, GA, with flat-rate pricing and zero hidden charges.
Flat-rate · fully installed · all-in. Includes all components, fabrication, wiring, and commissioning.
The only ecosystem built for serious off-grid living.
We specify Victron Energy components exclusively across every NüAbode solar build. Not because they're the cheapest option — they're not — but because they're the most reliable, the most serviceable, and the only system with the monitoring depth and integration capability that a serious boondocking Airstream requires.
Every component communicates with every other component. Your phone sees everything. And if something needs attention five years from now, parts and support exist worldwide. Victron is also what Airstream itself chose for its factory solar controller starting in 2021 — which means our upgrades integrate seamlessly with your existing wiring.

Full system brain. Solar input, battery state, shore power, loads — all on one touchscreen and your iOS/Android app. VRM cloud access on 48V builds.
Charges your house batteries while driving. Every mile the tow vehicle moves, your batteries fill up. Standard on 1600W and above.
Cuts AC compressor startup surge by up to 70%. The component that makes running your air conditioner on inverter power possible. Standard on 1000W and above.
LiFePO₄ lithium built for real off-grid use.
Every NüAbode system is built with SOK LiFePO₄ lithium batteries — purpose-built chemistry with a 3,000–5,000 cycle life, no memory effect, a flat discharge curve, and no thermal runaway risk. SOK batteries include a built-in BMS and are backed by a manufacturer warranty.
For 12V systems we spec the SOK 314Ah — one, two, or three units depending on your build. For the 48V Total Electric™ we run four SOK 48V 100Ah server rack batteries: 400Ah at 48 volts, 19.2kWh of usable energy, equivalent to roughly 1,600Ah at 12V in a smaller, lighter package.

The system that changes what's possible.
Every 12V system — no matter how large — eventually hits a wall. At high power levels, 12-volt architecture demands enormous wire gauges, generates significant heat, and struggles to sustain the kind of loads that make true off-grid living comfortable in hot climates.
The 48V Total Electric™ changes that. By running at 48 volts instead of 12, we move four times the power through the same wiring with a quarter of the current. That efficiency unlocks inverter output that genuinely mimics a 50-amp shore power connection — fed entirely by the sun and your battery bank.
The 48V architecture also solves a problem unique to heavy battery builds: weight distribution. On a 12V system, all batteries must live close together up front to keep cable runs short and voltage drop manageable. At 48V, we run a quarter of the current over the same distance — which means we can split the battery bank front to rear across the trailer. Two batteries forward, two batteries aft. The result is a 400+ lb battery bank that adds almost no net tongue weight, keeping your trailer balanced within factory spec regardless of how much lithium is on board.

A hidden advantage: weight distribution.
12V systems require all batteries clustered up front — long cable runs kill efficiency. At 48V, we run a quarter of the current over any distance, so we can split your battery bank front to rear. Two batteries forward, two aft. A 400+ lb bank that adds almost zero net tongue weight.
The honest reality about dual ACs all day:
Two air conditioners draw roughly 2,800 watts per hour combined. Sustaining that for 10+ hours demands aggressive solar input and smart energy management. The 48V system makes it technically possible in ways a 12V system cannot. We'll give you an honest assessment during your consultation — not a sales pitch.
What you have vs. what you could have.

Why Airstream solar isn't like any other RV.
Every challenge below is one we've solved — for Flying Clouds, Globetrotters, Classics, Caravels, Bambis, and Trade Winds — across every length in the lineup.
Curved Aluminum Roof
Every panel mount must be custom-fabricated to follow the Airstream's distinctive curved roof profile. Off-the-shelf mounts don't fit. We design and build model-specific brackets in-house.
Weight Distribution
Airstreams are precision-balanced. Every component placement — panels, batteries, inverter, wiring — is planned around maintaining proper tongue weight and trailer balance.
Limited Interior Space
Batteries, inverters, and charge controllers need to live somewhere. In an Airstream, that means creative integration — under beds, in pass-through compartments, behind cabinetry — without compromising living space.
Factory Wiring Integration
Late-model Airstreams have increasingly complex factory electrical systems. Our installs integrate with — not around — the existing wiring, preserving warranty-relevant components while upgrading capability.
Aluminum Skin Penetrations
Every wire run through the Airstream shell requires a weathertight, corrosion-resistant penetration that maintains the trailer's structural and aesthetic integrity. We take this seriously.
Roof Load Limits
Airstream specifies roof load limits that vary by model. Our designs stay within spec — and we'll tell you honestly if a proposed array exceeds safe limits for your trailer.
Every Airstream. Every Length. Upgraded.

Straight answers. No runaround.
Can I actually run my AC without being plugged in?
Yes — with the right system. The Micro-Air EasyStart is the key component, reducing the AC compressor's startup surge by up to 70%. With a 1000W build, running one AC unit while boondocking is entirely achievable. The 1600W system adds genuine headroom for confident single-AC operation and both ACs in mild conditions. For sustained dual-AC operation off-grid without compromise, the Total Electric 48V system is the right answer.
Do I need to ship my Airstream to Canton, GA?
Many clients do — and we make it as easy as possible with staging coordination and a detailed prep checklist. We're also happy to discuss mobile installation for fleet clients with 3+ units. Contact us to discuss your situation.
How long does installation take?
600W: 1–2 days. 1000W: 2–3 days. 1600W: 3–4 days. 48V Total Electric™: 5–7 days depending on complexity. We'll give you a specific window during the design consultation.
Does adding solar affect my Airstream warranty?
Factory warranties cover factory components. Our solar installations are additive — we integrate with, not into, your factory systems wherever possible. We provide a full NüAbode Upfit Certificate documenting every modification, which protects your investment and provides full transparency for any future service or resale.
What is the 48V Total Electric system — do I actually need it?
The 48V Total Electric™ is a completely different class of system from the 12V packages. Running at 48 volts allows us to deploy dual Victron Quattro inverter-chargers in a split-phase configuration that mirrors exactly how a 50-amp shore power pedestal works — two 120V legs powering every circuit in your Airstream's panel simultaneously, from the sun.
For most owners — even full-timers — the 1600W 12V build is sufficient. The 48V system is for owners who want to run both air conditioners for extended periods without hookups, live in truly hot climates, or want the absolute maximum independence money can buy. It's also the system for resort fleet operators who need Airstreams to operate completely off-grid. If you're asking whether you need it, you probably don't. If you already know you do, call us.
Which system is right for me?
